type of tile to use with steam shower

Q.Hi, We are building a new home and I would really like to use limestone or marble in the master bath. I have been told by the tile store that for a steam shower the only thing I can use is porcelain. Is this true? What would you recommend? many thanks, Tabatha
A.Hi Tabatha,
You are working with a well informed tile shop. You cant go wrong with ceramics and porcelain.Polished marble will fail in a steamshower and become honed.
Travertine honed is also a good choice as it seems to fare well in wet enviroments. Some other honed marbles will do well also.
Listen to your tile shop it seems they will give you straight answers. If you need to ask us anything please do.
Good luck with your new home.
