Help - My Honed Counters Look Shiny

My absolute black honed counters have just been installed. The installer put something on the surface and they do not really look honed - they look kind of shiny. What do you think they put on them? Is there a solve? If I had wanted shiny counters I would have gone with a polished finish?

Dear Ross:

Are you asking me what they put on top of your countertop to make it kinda shiny??... You're giving me too much credit – I'm not that clever!! :-)

No matter what it is that they applied (perhaps you should ask them… :-)), what needs to be done is to have that stuff thoroughly stripped.

A hone-finished black “granite” countertop should only be treated with a good-quality stone color enhancer non sensitive to acidic substances like MB-6, and then maintained with the right products. A color enhancer, if properly applied, will not alter in any way, shape or form the original hone-finish.

But whatever they applied now must be thoroughly removed, and the best way to do that is by re-honing your whole countertop with a good-quality honing powder. Anything else may fall short.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
