Travertine in Shower

Q.We are remodeling our master bath and have chosen Travertine Marble for the floors and walls. Do you think we should seal it before or after install or not, and if we should, should we use an enhanced sealer or matte?

A.Hello-Good choice for the bath even better if its honed travertine.Travertine is a dense stone and very rarely stains.

A true stain is always darker than the stone while a stain that is lighter is an etch mark. Be mindful travertine is acid sensitive and will be etched by anything acidic. When it is honed the etches will sort of blend in with the finish.

Getting back to your question it wont hurt to seal it with a good quality sealer such as our mb-4 water based sealer.

We also make a great color enhancing sealer as well mb-6.

Just keep in mind that the travertine is dense so dont over apply the product. The color enhancer may bring out some more color but test it first on a spare piece to see which product suits you.

If you are using a good contracter who knows stone then I would suggest sealing after installation and the grout has cured.Make sure you use unsanded grout.
