Travertine Floor

Hello, I just found your web site. We are installing new floor in our kitchen, fam room and dining area. I love the look of Travertine, but my husband prefers porcelain because of the low maintenance and lower price. Are there Travertine tiles taht I should be aware of. Are there better ones. I found one for $3.00 sq but there were others for 8.00???

Dear Alia:

The old saying, “you get what you pay for” seldom applies to natural stone in general, but when it comes to travertine it usually does.

Why?

Because no matter which corner of the planet it comes from, travertine was formed the same way all the time.

The pricing of travertine is mostly based upon its (undisclosed) grading. Sure, for instance, Turkish travertine costs less than the Italian travertine because of the differential in labor cost between the two countries; but high-quality Turkish travertine commends pretty steep prices, too.

Needless to say, manmade porcelain is cheaper and much more predictable, but a good selection of hone-finished travertine tiles properly installed would make for a very enjoyable flooring material.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
