Used Aqua Mix Enrich & Seal on new travertine floor

I followed all the directions. My floors now look cloudy and dull. I did not leave the E & S on for longer than 5 minutes before wiping off the excess. What can I do now? I have considered buffing with an industrial type buffer. The floors are honed travertine. I sealed 3 rooms but have 4 other areas that I did not seal. So that is good I guess. Thank you.

Dear Chris:

Have you tried to contact the customer service of that company? And if so, what did they tell you?

If they don't know how to answer that question for you about their own product, how can you expect me to do that? I can try to solve problems about my own products, but certainly not those of the competition.

That said, color-enhancing hone-finished travertine is kinda chancy proposition all the time because the stone may not absorb in a uniform way. The problem now is that whatever was absorbed is inside the stone and it's difficult to pull it out. Your only hope – this side of whatever else the manufacturer of the product may have told you – is that if it was not absorbed deep you can remove everything and have a uniform surface again by having your floor re-honed professionally with a honing powder.

Other than that I wouldn't know.

And after that, use a regular impregnator like MB-4 to do your sealing instead of a color-enhancing sealer.  Even more important…

Remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – like it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about it from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
