Black Uba Tuba light stains

I left a empty plastic tray from my dishwasher on my kitchen granite. It left a mark that is lighter than the granite in the shape of the tray. Is there anything I can do to get the mark out?

Dear Sue:

It's hard to answer your question: what you're reporting is mighty unusual, intriguing and suspicious.

My first attempted diagnosis would be that your fabricator/installer applied an impregnating/sealer to your stone thinking that is granite and that it could be technically sealed. (Charnockite can't be sealed.) If that's the case, maybe (and hopefully), an invisible film of impregnator was left on the surface of the stone and reacted to the tray, more precisely the condensation that most likely happened under it. In such case, all you have to do is call your fabricator back and demand that they remove completely the sealer that they so uselessly applied and suggest them to learn at least he basics about the stones they process and install and they requirements.

But all this is only an assumption and I sure hope that I hit the nail in the head, because it would be an easy and permanent solution to the problem.

But it could be something more serious, such as malicious doctoring of your slab, which is a crime.

I would suggest you to inquire with your fabricator/installer and find out if they “sealed” your stone first; and if they did, try the first solution I suggested. If that won't work, get back to me and we'll try to find out the real story.
