Commodes over marble floor cleaning

Hi Maurizio. We purchased your document "Marble and Granite Installations in Residential Dwellings" and saw the part about the dangers of standard toilet bowl cleansers to stone floors. You say to use a "powdery cleanser" on commodes, and in a reply to another question you said "All you need to clean your toilet-bowl is some good ol' powdery cleanser like Comet and such; even if you spill some of the powder on the floor nothing will happen." My question is, once you have put the powder into the bowl, will it damage the floor if you slop some of the water on to the floor? Thanks, Dave and Wendy, soon to be "adopting" a lot of travertine and granite.

Dear Dave:

I have a marble floor in my master bathroom and I (yes, me personally) do the cleaning of the toilet. First I push the water through the water trap with one of those big cotton-swabs to clean toilet bowls that you can buy at any janitorial supply company, by pushing it up and down swiftly until almost all the water is gone. (In that phase you will be splattering water out of the bowl, but it's only water.) After that, you will sprinkle your powdery cleanser and, using that wet cotton swab, you will do your cleaning. I can't see how you could possibly spill water at that point. To rinse, just flush the toilet a couple of time. I never had a problem.

Thanks, Dave and Wendy, soon to be "adopting" a lot of travertine and granite
