marble floors

I am installing polished marble floors, walls and trim in my bathrooms. All marble polished Bath #1 nero marquina and arabesco carrera patterned floor, arrbesco wall tiles, nero marquina trim. bath #2 white carrera and emperors black floor. Do I need to apply anything immediately after the installation? How do I clean and maintain the marble to keep the polish?

Dear Candy:

Do I need to apply anything immediately after the installation? ” Not now, not right after the installation, not ever! You can't seal polished marble; on the other hand, polished marble will never stain. It will etch a lot (water stains) if you spill something acidic onto it, but no sealer for stone in the entire galaxy could do the first thing to prevent those surface damages from happening.

As for routine care, which is paramount, by logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/helpful-hints.htm, you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay-per-download format in our Educational Literature section at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/literature.htm.
