Care of Honed Marble

Last year, we installed a light marble, honed island contertop meant for baking, etc. It is now showing signs of pitting, rings where my daughter left her glass. It is unsealed. We like the natural look - okay with aging, but should it be sealed or protected it in some way. And, how do I best clean it? Thank you.

Dear Liz:
You report little pits and "rings" but you don't report any stain. So what would be the benefit to have an impregnator (a.k.a. sealer) applied to your countertop? You would still have more "water rings" and little pits regardless...
The good news is that if you have a half-handy person in your house, a good orbital sander with metal-grade sandpaper in grits, 80, 120 and 240 will make your countertop go back to better than new in a couple of hours.
And you won't even have to worry about the dust, either, for you will be using the sandpaper wet. You will have to deal with a few splatters, but it's no biggie. After that, for routine cleaning, I would suggest MB-5.
Easy enough for you?... J
