Rings on Honed Calcutta Gold

Hi Maurizio! I did a portion of my kitchen countertops in honed Calcutta Gold. It looks beautiful, and I have been diligent about what is set on them. HOWEVER, during Thanksgiving, a couple of folks set their glasses of champagne on them without coaster. Naturally, it left a rings that I am obsessing over. Is their anything I can do??? One site recommended a solution of whiting, peroxide and ammonia, but I thought you were not suppose to use ammonia on marble. I also need to know what sealer I should use, time to re-seal. THANK YOU!!!

To do what??... What you have are surface damages that have to be repaired mechanically; what does the whiting, peroxide and ammonia thing got to do with the price of tea in China ?! Also, no sealer for stone (impregnator) could have ever prevented that.

That said, the only way to repair that damage is to use some good ol' metal grade sandpaper. Start with 120 grit and then 240 and then finish with 400. That should pretty much blend in.

You also maintain that's time to re-seal your countertop. How did you determine that? How long ago it was originally sealed? Even the lousiest impregnator will last at least a couple of years before re-sealing. However, if it really needs to be re-sealed, the best sealer to use is the original one. Mixing different makes could create problems of compatibility.
