slate

I purchased and am memorizing your article on how to shop for a granite countertop. Thanks! When I read through many of the questions on the site, I see that slate is not your preferred material for "anywhere but a roof". Does this advice hold for a backsplash that is nowhere near a cooktop, i.e. no grease? There would be splashes from the sink. I read your answer that there are many kinds of slate but no specifics on what the differences are and how to detect them.

It should be alight as long as you treat the stone with a good-quality stone color enhancer like MB-6.

Unfortunately, I could not figure out a simple test like my lemon-juice (and oil) to determine the suitability of the different types of slates available on the marketplace and counting. There's no easy way to tell, I'm sorry.
